A delegation from Bhutan, led by the Hon’ble Lyonpo Chandra Bahadur Gurung, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport attended the 2nd Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Civil Aviation, held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, India, from 11th to 12th September 2024. Bhutan was joined by distinguished delegates from 29 other countries from the Asia-Pacific region.
Hon’ble Lyonpo addressed the conference highlighting Bhutan’s notable achievements in civil aviation over the past four decades. He also addressed key issues related to safety, security, sustainability and efficiency in civil aviation, both in Bhutan and in the region.
The two-day high-level conference was attended by the transport and aviation ministers, regulatory bodies, and industry experts from the Asia Pacific region. The conference focused on addressing key challenges like infrastructure development, sustainability and workforce growth, while fostering stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors.
The conference concluded with the presence of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi of India, who announced the adoption of the Asia Pacific Ministerial Declaration on Civil Aviation, also known as the Delhi Declaration, which will serve as a roadmap for the advancement of the region’s aviation sector.
During the 2nd Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference held in New Delhi on 11-12 September 2024, the Hon’ble Minister Chandra Bdr. Gurung held significant sideline meetings with key counterparts from the Government of India.
On the 10th of September 2024, the Hon’ble Minister met with Sri Nitin Jairam Gadkari, the Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways followed by a bilateral meeting with Shri Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, the Hon’ble Minister of Civil Aviation, GoI. The bilateral meeting discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in transportation infrastructure and civil aviation between the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Government of India.
On 12th September 2024, the Hon’ble Minister met with Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Hon’ble Minister of Railways, GoI to explore collaborative opportunities in advancing cross-border railways and strengthening regional connectivity.
