The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, Royal Government of Bhutan and the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance bilateral cooperation in the postal sector on 20th March, 2026 in Thimphu. The MoU will be implemented by Bhutan Postal Corporation Limited on behalf of Bhutan and the Department of Posts on behalf of India.
The Indian delegation, led by Ms. Vandita Kaul, Secretary, Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, comprised Ms. Aarti Verma, Director (Training), Mr. Supriyo Ghosh, Postmaster General, West Bengal Circle, and Dr. Gaurav Saini, UPU Regional Field Project Expert. The delegation called on the Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, in the morning, where discussions were held on strengthening the postal sector of Bhutan, followed by a call on the Hon’ble Secretary, MoIT.
The MoU establishes a structured framework for collaboration between India Post and Bhutan Post in the areas of postal operations, technology development, capacity building, logistics connectivity, e-commerce, financial services, philately, and knowledge exchange, among other areas of mutual interest.
On the sidelines of the visit, a flag-off ceremony was held on 19th March, 2026 marking the resumption of surface mail exchange between India and Bhutan. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Supriyo Ghosh and Mr. Dawa, Regional Manager, Southern Region for Bhutan Post based in Phuentsholing.
