Department of Surface Transport, Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport today signed a nine-month contract worth Nu. 350,415,000 with Switch Mobility Automotive Limited for the procurement of 45 electric buses and related services.
Supported by the Government of India under Project Tied Assistance “Accelerating E-mobility Uptake in Bhutan” project, the investment will modernize Bhutan’s public transport fleet, reduce carbon emissions, and provide cleaner, more efficient services to communities nationwide. The electric buses are expected to be operational by late 2026. The project underscores Bhutan’s commitment to maintaining its carbon-negative status while advancing sustainable transport infrastructure.
